LINE-X team supports wounded vets in Birdies for the Build golf tournament

On September 23, 2018,  LINE-X had the honor of partnering with former NFL legend Jared Allen and his Homes for Wounded Warriors (JAH4WW) charity golf tournament, Birdies for the Build 2018, in Phoenix. Allen a retired 12-year NFL defensive lineman, hosts events across the country each year to raise awareness and funds to build handicap accessible homes for injured military veterans.

Corporal Cesar Garcia, a United States Army veteran, was selected as this year’s JH4WW home build recipient, with all funds raised from Birdies for the Build benefiting the construction of his new, fully handicap accessible home in Arizona. Cpl. Garcia sustained life-threatening injuries following a recovery mission in Southwest Baghdad where he was hit by explosives and gunfire. He suffered a traumatic brain injury and lost his left leg. He has since recovered physically from the attack and is currently working full-time as a field engineer.

“The young men and women who are chosen by Jared Allen’s Homes for Wounded Warriors represent the very best of the America. They’ve given everything and put their bodies on the line for American values and freedom,” said Matt Walthers, regional manager for LINE-X and U.S. military veteran. “Meeting Cesar was a very humbling experience. Even after having gone through unimaginable trauma, his outlook on life is unfazed. He’s a bright spot in any conversation and in any room. His energy is contagious. While speaking with him, he said, “I didn’t lose my leg, I gave it.” These men and women proudly served all of us in the USA, and, even though we will never give as much as they have, supporting events like this is our opportunity to serve them.”

According to Allen’s charity website, he was moved by the commitment, dedication, and sacrifices that our soldiers make every day to protect our freedom following a trip to U.S. military bases in the Middle East. As a way to say thank you to those who sacrifice their lives every day for our country, Allen formed JAH4WW. His website states that “by embracing the conflict and making a positive life-changing difference in the lives of those who need it most, Jared and his JAH4WW will help make life for wounded vets just a little bit easier.”

Along with Walther, Kent Henderson, Director of Franchise Operations, and Pete Postiglione, LINE-X Franchisee, played in the Phoenix tournament on behalf of LINE-X. The company also sponsored a hole and contest, furthering its support of our nation’s veterans.
